Malahide Castle, in North County Dublin, was home to the Talbot family for over 800 years until as recently as 1975, when then last heir to the Talbot fortune sold it to the local council to pay the inheritance tax she owed.
It has been kept in remarkably good condition for a building with so much history.
The short tour of the castle, showcases one of the finest antique furniture collections in this country. Within easy access from Dublin’s city centre, it is a must for any visitor to Ireland.
BTW, I heard today that the castle will be closed for renovations from the end of October. So be sure to check it out as soon as you can.
